I'm Dhan... Ramadhan....

Reality Check...!

Ramadhan al-Mubarak to one and to all. It’s such a festive month, really it is. It is much more ‘hip and happening’ than Syawal itself. To me lah... Why?

  1. There’s a ton of food everywhere when it comes to break the fast time (I have trouble with the term ‘buka puasa’ in English).
  2. Most, MOST people dress down, covered,…. more proper in short.
  3. People actually pray more often than they do in any other months. And they go to the surau or the mosque more.
  4. Not so much of temper flaring up east, west, north and south of every single point of the earth.
  5. The haze hasn’t been around the Towers for the past week, I am totally not kidding about this.
  6. There’s a lot of ‘Majlis Berbuka Puasa’ everywhere: homes, offices, hotels, golf courses, KFC, McD, Burger King (Kofta King dude), restaurants, mamak stalls, etc etc etc. You don’t see hotels holding an Open Hotel during Raya right?
  7. People talk nicely.. no F*&k *ou! - Sh^t – Da*n it! – B&b! – etc etc etc. People really try to refrain from this.
  8. Boys and girls really TRY to keep their hands off of each other. Key Word: Try.
  9. Shopping Galore: A real reason to shop. For clothes, jewelry, shoes, hair clips, songkok, socks, plates, curtains, poultry, beef, petai, tons of rice.
  10. Curfews are adhered.. “Be back in time for fast breaking okay!!!”
  11. Real reason to be tired during the day.. “I haven’t eaten the whole day, so I’m kinda slow to response” – only catch is, everybody else has got the same excuse. Mind you that in Rasulullah s.a.w time, they went to war during Ramadhan. Way to go working people in air-cond environment!
  12. People feel bad, remorse (slight remorse is still considered feeling of remorse) for thinking of harm to others, sexual thoughts, hating people (girls like Nelly, Makcik Rap), being lazy, switching lanes without signaling on the road, not wearing the scarf, talking in a higher decibel than normal, spending money on buying cigarettes… among others.
  13. Less smoke during the day cause the men and women kinda can't smoke.. hehe...

and on and on and on and on………….

But yeah, can you see the point where Ramadhan is actually more ‘hip and happening’ than Syawal or any other months? It’s because people tone down and they act differently. They really tone down, and try to be actual human beings at one point. Patience is a virtue, so Ramadhan makes us practice it for real. Ramadhan is more ‘hip’, more ‘happening’ because it’s the only month when many of us change our lifestyles for the better. So Allah, the almighty God would merit us with his blessings.

It’s a shame many of us can’t keep up with all the jive after Ramadhan goes away till it visits us again a year later. Not to say that I can, cause I know what I’m capable of, so that’s a hush hush to me or probably even a blab la by now.

It’s a day of pondering I guess, so this is it for me today. Just simple thoughts while waiting for Nukky to come back from some meeting somewhere.

Back to the first line though – “Reality Check”: I have a lot of reality checking to do.

Selamat Berpuasa to all…

I share your thought on Ramadhan.... only thing I can't figure out is why our family dinner table shrinks during this time of month. Usually dinner servings will leave room for elbows (and even feet, if you tried) on the table, but during ramadhan, you can barely see the table cloth. Also, most times you really are in a hurry to perform maghrib prayers, coz there ain't no way you're gonna finish everything you bought at the pasar ramadhan and still make it for maghrib. For example, my Dad wants a sardine filled currypuff, so he buys the minimum amount (usually 3) from at least 2 stalls (for comparison). So we end up with minimum 6 currypuffs, assuming nobody else thinks of Dad's favourite pastry. Usually not the case. Itu bary karipap. Banyaknye taip pasal food, batal puasa gua..... dah cukup.

Izhal mana? Balik terus senyap je....
